S3 and Retention

Post by tailtwister »

So, I think I've finally got this figured out for my 14 day trial. I'm using strictly AWS S3 for backups using BackupManager.

Just to confirm (because I was silly and am doing my trial with a LOT of data), if I'm doing an Incremental Accounts backup and have Retention set to, say, 3, what is going to be the end result? (will I have 3 full copies of each account?) I ask because I've just tripped across the knowledgebase entry that shows what the S3 backs can and can't do.

Great application once I got my head wrapped around it and dealt with some indexing issues.

Hello,

The Amazon S3 destinations is very limited as we can't create hardlinks between backup sanpshots,
that's why each backup snapshot will contain full backup size.

We always recommending to use SSH destinations,
saving disk space by keeping only the changes between each snapshot (using hardlinks)
